Service and Engagement Opportunities

We’re glad you’re here!

Thank you for your interest in supporting Diverse Ability Incorporated! There are many ways to get involved, give back to your community, and grow your skills along the way. Whether you enjoy connecting with others, supporting programs, or working directly with youth, there’s a role that’s right for you.

Below, you’ll find our current roles and opportunities. To get started, everyone must complete an application, which is required once each year.

Ways to Get Involved

There’s a place for you at DAI—whether you want to share information, support programs, or work directly with youth:

  • Ambassadors: Help spread the word about DAI at events—no direct work with youth.
  • Volunteers (Youth and Adult): Support programs and events by helping with activities, set up, and participant needs.
  • Peer Leaders: AZYLF graduates who lead activities, share their experiences, and support youth in building leadership skills.
  • Interns: Build skills and experience for academic and career goals by supporting programs and behind‑the‑scenes work.

Learn more about each role and find the best fit for you.

Ambassadors
(Do not work directly with youth)
Ambassadors represent Diverse Ability Incorporated at events like fairs and conferences. They talk about our programs and help spread the word about what we do. This role is flexible and does not include working with youth.

Ambassador Requirements
To serve as an Ambassador with Diverse Ability Incorporated, individuals must complete the following steps prior to beginning service:

  • Submit a completed application
  • Get parent or guardian consent if a minor or under legal guardianship
  • Attend orientation and training sessions

Volunteers (Youth and Adult)
Volunteers help support our programs and events. This can include helping with activities, setting up, and supporting participants. Some volunteers may work directly with youth. Youth and young adult volunteers must be graduates of the Arizona Youth Leadership Forum (AZYLF).

Volunteer Requirements
To serve as a Volunteer (Youth and Adult) with Diverse Ability Incorporated, individuals must complete the following steps prior to beginning service:

  • Confirm AZYLF graduate status as part of your application (required for youth and young adult volunteers)
  • Submit a completed application
  • Obtain parent or guardian consent if the applicant is a minor or under legal guardianship
  • Successfully complete a background check
  • Attend orientation and training sessions

Depending on the level and nature of involvement with youth, volunteers may also be required to obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card (an IVP card is required for individuals supporting school‑based activities).

These requirements help ensure the safety of participants and staff and support compliance with Arizona regulations for youth‑serving organizations.

Peer Leaders are AZYLF graduates who come back to support our programs. They work directly with youth by leading activities, sharing their experiences, and helping participants stay engaged and build leadership skills.

Our Peer Leader model is designed to help AZYLF graduates grow their skills and take on more responsibility over time. Each level builds on the last, helping young people move from learning to leading:

  • Peer Leader 1: A beginner‑level role. You help with programs and events while learning skills like teamwork, facilitation, and communication. You’ll work alongside staff or experienced leaders for guidance.
  • Peer Leader 2: A next‑level role. You take on more responsibility by helping plan activities, leading parts of programs, and supporting other interns, while still having guidance available.
  • Peer Leader 3: A leadership role. You help run programs, guide and support interns, and represent DAI. You take a lead role in making sure programs run smoothly.

Peer Leader Requirements
To serve as a Peer Leader with Diverse Ability Incorporated, individuals must complete the following steps prior to beginning service:

  • Confirm AZYLF graduate status as part of the application process
  • Submit a completed application
  • Obtain parent or guardian consent if the individual is under legal guardianship
  • Obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card (an IVP card is required for individuals supporting school‑based activities)
  • Successfully complete a background check
  • Attend orientation and training sessions, including the Arizona Youth Engagement Academy (AZYEA), if training is not current

These requirements help ensure the safety of participants and staff and support compliance with Arizona regulations for youth‑serving organizations.

Interns support DAI’s mission while working toward their academic and professional goals by helping with programs, working with youth, and assisting with behind‑the‑scenes tasks, all with guidance from staff.

Intern Requirements
To serve as an Intern with Diverse Ability Incorporated, you will be required to complete all of the following prior to service:

  • Submit a completed application
  • Get parent or guardian consent if under legal guardianship
  • Obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP card required if you will support school‑based activities)
  • Successfully complete a background check
  • Attend orientation and training sessions

These steps help keep our programs safe and ensure we meet Arizona requirements for youth‑serving organizations.
