Cindy Garfio Inzunza was born in Culiacán Sinaloa, Mexico, and grew up in Nogales, Arizona. She and her brother were raised by her godparents, after her parents, sadly, passed away. She is bilingual in Spanish and English, and became an American Citizen in 2013.
Cindy, who has had blindness from birth, is a first-generation college student, and aspires to become an administrative professional, in addition to taking an active role within the disability community.
Cindy attended the Arizona Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, and graduated from the Colorado Center for the Blind in 2015. She is a member of the Phoenix Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind, which firmly believes that blindness doesn’t stop you from being independent, and Cindy totally exemplifies this belief, in her daily choices and actions.
A lover of the outdoors, Cindy appreciates participating in a variety of activities with Daring Adventures, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of individuals who have disabilities through the power of outdoor recreation. She also loves reading, and spending time with family.
Cindy is a person of faith, who is very social, and enjoys motivating others. She is trustworthy, reliable, and considerate, traits which led to her being elected as a Leadership Team member for the Class of 2021, following her graduation that same year, from Arizona Youth Leadership Forum (AZYLF), and Arizona Youth Engagement Academy (AZYEA). Cindy is currently a Services Technician with Vocational Rehabilitation.
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing”, a quote by Helen Keller, is one that Cindy lives by. The motto of the Colorado Center for the Blind, “Take charge with confidence and self-reliance”, also resonates with her. Cindy’s own mantra is “Don’t ever say you can’t”, and anyone who knows her, definitely knows she can.
